First Responder Interaction Day (Fairfax County), April 25th from 10am to 2pm
Description:
Register for the First Responder Interaction Day hosted by Fairfax County on April 25th from 10am to 2pm! -
The free event is designed to help people with access and functional needs feel more comfortable during emergency situations, but everyone in the community is welcome to attend.
The event is a partnership between the Fairfax County Department of Emergency Management and Security and The Arc of Northern Virginia, a nonprofit that supports people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
What to Expect:
First Responder Interaction Day is built around hands-on practice. Instead of sitting through a lecture, attendees will work directly with police officers, firefighters and EMS crews in low-stress, friendly settings.
Here is what the day includes:
- Practice police traffic stops. Getting pulled over can be stressful for anyone. This station lets you walk through what happens during a traffic stop so you know what to expect.
- Practice talking with Fire and Rescue and EMS crews. You will get a chance to meet firefighters and paramedics, see their equipment up close and practice asking for help.
- Learn hands-only CPR. This simple skill can save a life. No certification is required, and the training takes just a few minutes.
- Learn about emergency planning. Staff will walk you through how to prepare for natural disasters and other emergencies, including how to put together a plan for your household.
- Get a personalized ID card. Attendees can receive a custom identification card to carry with them. In an emergency, you can hand it to a first responder, so they quickly understand your needs.
