Brain Injury Quick Guide (July 2013)

This guide contains information and resources for teachers and school staff. It includes a brief overview of brain injury statistics, levels of brain injury severity, and brain anatomy as well as the behavior, psycho-social, physical/sensory-motor, perceptual, attention, memory/learning, executive function and communication/language challenges that may be faced by a student who has had a traumatic brain injury. There are instructional strategy suggestions and a case study that illustrates how to address each type of challenge. (This guide is a product of the Governor’s Advisory Council on Brain Injuries, the Iowa Department of Public Health, Grant Wood AEA, Epilepsy Foundation of Iowa, and Brain Injury Alliance of Iowa.)
