Handbook of Language and Literacy Development: A Roadmap from 0 to 60 Months

Between three and five years of age, children continue to make gains in both their understanding and their use of language. Their vocabularies grow in size. They produce longer and more complex sentences. During the preschool period, children's speech will become clearer as they master new sounds and new syllable structures. Language continues to develop in the context of interaction with others.
