School Community Network

Description:

The School Community Network (SCN) provides resources, training, and tools to build strong school communities focused on student learning. SCN is sponsored by the Academic Development Institute (ADI), a not-for-profit organization located in Lincoln, Illinois. SCN's work draws from ADI's over 30 years of experience and extensive research in family and community engagement.

What is a School Community?

A school community consists of the people intimately attached to a school - students, their families, teachers, administrators, school staff, and volunteers - bound together by their common interest in the students served by the school. When the school functions as a community rather than in a community, its constituents associate with one another and share common values about the education of children. Those children become our children; parents are not external agents but full partners, and teachers are not isolated but integrated into the web of community.
