On January 25, 2018, the Board of Education approved the proposed Guidelines for the Prevention of Suspension and Expulsion of Young Children:  Supporting Children with Challenging Behaviors in Early Childhood Settings.

The Department of Education has posted links to the Guidelines for the Prevention of Suspension and Expulsion of Young Children: Supporting Children with Challenging Behaviors in Early Childhood Settings on the Early Childhhood Curriculum & Instruction webpage. These guidelines are provided to assist program leaders, educators and families in supporting the healthy development of young children in early child care and education programs. Guiding principles, definitions, best practices for promoting positive behavior, suggested steps to prevent suspensions and expulsions, and resources for promoting social-emotional development are included in this document.
