Ready- Plan Ahead for Disasters: Resources for Individuals with Disabilities (available in Spanish)
Description:
Ready is a National public service campaign designed to educate and empower the American people to prepare for, respond to and mitigate emergencies, including natural and man-made disasters. The goal of the campaign is to promote preparedness through public involvement.
Ready asks that individuals:
- stay informed about the different types of emergencies that could occur and their appropriate responses
- make a family emergency plan and
- build an emergency supply kit, and
- get involved in your community by taking action to prepare for emergencies.

Disability intersects every demographic group—there are people with disabilities of all ages, races, genders or national origin. And, disabilities can impact a person in a variety of ways—both visible and invisible. For people with disabilities and their families, it is important to consider individual circumstances and needs to effectively prepare for emergencies and disasters.
National Preparedness Month (NPM) is an observance each September to raise awareness about the importance of preparing for disasters and emergencies that could happen at any time. The 2021 theme is “Prepare to Protect. Preparing for disasters is protecting everyone you love.”
